Thomians loose Plate Finals 10 points to 5

The annual Sri Lankan Schools Rugby tournament was held on the 27th of September at the Markham Rugby Club grounds. The event was jointly organized by the STC OBA and the Trinity College OBA. This year 7 teams participated at the event. They are, S. Thomas’, Trinity ‘A’ and ‘B’, Royal, Joe-Pete, Pink Elephants and S. Anthony’s.


The first game for the Thomians was against traditional rivals Royal College. The Thomians were without several key players due to injuries. Gerhard Munaweera, Amila Madulaarachchi and Dillon Perera were all unavailable and we wish them a speedy recovery and look forward to their participation next year. The Thomians lost to RC 15 points to nothing in the first game.


The Thomians led by Fly-half Shamal (DK) Perera were set to play against S. Anthony’s for the Plate Finals. Despite yet another injury, this time to skipper Shamal Perera the Thomians fought hard in the first half to tie at 5 all at the short whistle. During the second half of the game the Antonians scored their second try to win the game 10 points to 5.


Following players represented STC: Shamal Perera (Captain), Michael Glanville, Niranjan Namasivayam, Chamil Welikala, Praveen Shanthadev, Russell Rajarathnam, Balen Rajanathan, DR Weerasinghe and Rajith Kannangara.
