Christmas Party 2012

The proceedings for the evening commenced with Old Thomians, Steven Selvadurai and Wimsy Sinnathamby along with members of their families leading the crowd gathered in singing Christmas Carols accompanied by Louis on the keyboard.

At 8:00 pm Santa made his first stop on his annual trek around the world to bring joy to all kids present, by doing his practice run with Rudolph and the Reindeers by flying over from the North Pole to the STC OBA Canada Event.  Gifts were given to over 20 children present, along with pictures sitting on Santa’s lap.  This was followed by pictures of families and some larger kids sitting on Santa’s lap.

The Royal College group followed by singing their share of Carols, followed by the girls from St.Bridget’s Convent.

The entertainment for the evening then commenced with some beautiful music provided by Thomians.  Kumaru Wijesundera, Shantha Jayasekera accompanied by their children and vocalist, Shantha’s niece.  The highlight of the evening was the little son and daughter of Shantha’s niece singing in true professional style some Christmas songs to the delight of all present including Santa.  Senior member, Kail Rajah’s grandson then gave a solo performance playing his guitar and singing along.

Natalie Jayasekera, wife of Shantha organized some kid’s craft which was followed with pizza dinner.

The adults’ dinner of Hoppers followed, with music going from there on uninterrupted.  Daya Ginige and Shantha also provided recorded music.  The very reliable Chian de Silva provided the sound and also doubled up as bartender for the evening.  A special guest at the gathering was old Thomian and former DIG Sri Lanka Police and now in retirement as a lawyer, Thangavelu, who took the mike, and belted out several Sinhala and Tamil songs.

President Hiran, then took off his President’s hat and put on his Santa hat to hand out some gifts to members of his Executive Committee past year, and some wives for their outstanding contributions during the year.

Another great event organized by the incoming Thomian committee.  Special thanks to Sri Rangan and Thamal Perera.

Enjoy the upcoming Holidays with your family and friends.  We look forward to another new year of friendship and fellowship amongst all old Thomians in Canada in Y2013.
